Short answer

In Deep Cut you get one question a day, such as “Name a Leeds midfielder”, and give three correct answers. Each answer scores the percentage of other players who gave the same one. Add your three scores: the lowest total wins, so the rarer your answers, the better.

How to play

  1. Read today’s question. It is always about this season’s Premier League squads: a club, a position, a nationality or a stat.
  2. Type a name and pick the player from the list. Only real answers to the question are accepted.
  3. Choose three, then lock in. You see how many people picked each of your answers and your total score.

A wrong answer scores 100, the worst possible, so a safe correct pick is always better than a wild guess.

How the scoring works

Each answer is worth the share of today’s players who gave it. If 40% of people named the club captain, he scores 40. If you are the only person to name the third-choice goalkeeper, he scores close to zero.

Scores are live. Early in the day few people have played, so check back later with Refresh scores to see your final total.

Tips for a low score

  • Skip the first name that comes to mind. If it came to you instantly, it came to everyone.
  • Think squad, not starting XI. Backup goalkeepers, academy graduates and January signings are where the low scores live.
  • Use the list. Typing a few letters shows every matching player, which jogs your memory.
  • Be certain. A wrong answer costs 100, more than any popular pick.

Then flip it with Crowd Favourite

Common questions

Is a high or low score better in Deep Cut?

Low. Each answer scores the percentage of players who gave it, so the lowest total wins.

What happens if I give a wrong answer?

It scores 100, the worst possible for one answer.

Is Deep Cut like Pointless?

It uses a similar idea, the rarest correct answer is best, but the scores come from today’s BALLKNW players instead of a survey of 100 people.

When is there a new question?

Every day at midnight UK time.
