What Premier League is like to manage in

The average age across the division is 25.5, which puts it mid-table for experience: a few veterans to move on, a core with years left. A 11.4-point spread between the best and worst first elevens leaves room for a mid-table side to gatecrash the top four. Look for the 104 under-21s who have not finished developing — the squads span 65 nations, so the pool is wider than the league's size suggests.

The board sets a finishing position, and the rest is yours: tactics, selection, the transfer window, contracts, the academy and the cups. Miss the target badly enough and you are sacked. Your save lives in your own browser, with nothing to install and nobody to sign up to.
