FM26: Building a Dynasty
One season is just the beginning — here's how to build a club that dominates for a decade.
Building a dynasty in FM26 takes long-term planning, sustainable finances and a clear identity. The clubs that dominate for a decade are the ones that build a system rather than a squad.
The dynasty blueprint
- Establish a playing style — pick one and recruit to it for years, not months
- Build a recruitment system — the same scouting markets, the same player profile, every window
- Develop youth — a production line, not occasional lucky intakes
- Manage finances — never let the wage bill outrun income
- Invest in infrastructure — facilities compound over a decade in a way signings never do
- Create a winning culture — leaders, professionalism, and a hierarchy that survives transfers
Years 1–3: establish
- Learn the squad and cut what does not fit
- Settle on a tactical identity and train it properly
- Sign three or four players who match it exactly
- Get facilities and staff upgrades approved while expectations are low
- Survive, stabilise, and build board confidence
Years 4–6: compete
- Challenge for trophies with a squad that now fits the system
- Promote the first academy graduates into real roles
- Fund improvements through selling, not through the board
- Push facilities to the level where intakes improve noticeably
- Qualify for Europe and let the reputation increase do the recruiting
Years 7–10: dominate
- Win consistently rather than occasionally
- Replace ageing stars from inside the club before they decline
- Run a self-funding transfer model where sales cover signings
- Hold the identity even when a big-money signing would break it
Long saves fail in this phase more often than the first: a dominant squad ages simultaneously, and the manager who does not sell before the decline spends years rebuilding.
The key to longevity
Patience, and a squad that renews itself continuously rather than in emergencies. Sell a year early rather than a year late, keep one or two academy players coming through every season, and resist the signings that would win this year at the cost of the next three.
Common questions
How do you build a long-term save in Football Manager?
Pick a playing identity and recruit to it consistently, invest in facilities and youth early, keep the wage bill sustainable, and replace ageing players before they decline rather than after.
How long does it take to build a dynasty in FM?
Realistically six to ten seasons. The first three are about stability and infrastructure; sustained dominance comes once the youth and recruitment pipelines are producing.
Why do long Football Manager saves fall apart?
Usually because a squad ages together. A team built in one or two windows declines in one or two windows unless it is renewed continuously.
Are facilities worth investing in?
Over a long save, yes — training and youth facilities affect every player you develop for as long as you stay, which no single signing can match.
Should you stay at one club for a dynasty save?
That is the point of the format. Staying is what lets facility investment, youth intakes and club culture compound in your favour.
